1972年、神戸市に生まれる。1990年、渡米。

1996年、ニューヨーク大学演劇文学科卒業後、サミュエル・ベケットの無言劇 「言葉なき行為Ⅰ」「言葉なき行為Ⅱ」を製作、演出。

1997年、死後の世界を描いた「After That Platform, and It's Quiet」の脚本、演出で、 「メタ・シアターの個性的な完結を見せた」(Drama City) と高い評価を受ける。

日本に帰国し、「寓の木星」の企画・脚本・演出。1999年、芦屋ルナ・ホールで公演。 同年ニューヨークに戻り、自ら改訂翻訳した脚本「An Exile on Jupiter」を演出する。

2002年、「モノオペラ　ハムレット」（原作：ウィリアム・シェイクスピア、作曲：林光）を演出。 神戸新聞松方ホールで公演。

同年、能楽師、囃子方と「伝統芸術版クリエーターズ・ミーティング」（京都芸術センター企画）に演出家として参加。 「Catastrophe 2002」（原作：サミュエル・ベケット）を発表する。

2003年、京都芸術センターで「Katastrophe」を公演。

2005年、元港湾施設 篠崎倉庫（神戸）で新作「ナム numb」を公演。

2007年から2010年までシリアのダマスカス、2014年から、中国の武漢に住む。

2017年、「あの頃のシリアの話」執筆。

Daiho Tsuruoka was born in Kobe, Japan, and graduated from New York University with a degree in Dramatic Literature.

He made his debut as a theatre director in 1996 with Samuel Beckett's Act Without Words I and Act Without Words II at One Dream Theater, New York.

In 1997, he presented After That Platform, and It's Quiet, a tragicomedy about life after death. Drama City Magazine called Tsuruoka "a young genius who embodied the spiritual aspects of life in deep silence, with his calmness and warmth."

In 1999, his play Guu no Mokusei (Allegoric Jupiter) premiered in Japan, sponsored by Ashiya City Culture Foundation. Kobe Shinbun (Newspaper) said of the play "A true tragedy that compels us to ponder the human condition." Translated into English by the author himself, this play was presented in New York with a new cast and crew.

In 2002, Tsuruoka wrote an opera based on William Shakespeare's Hamlet, and directed Mono-Opera Hamlet (composed by Hikaru Hayashi) in Japan.

In 2002, as playwright/director, he participated in the workshop -Japanese Traditional Theater: A Creators' Meeting- at Kyoto Art Center. At the conclusion of the workshop, his play based on Samuel Beckett's Catastrophe was presented with a Noh actor and a musical accompanist.

In 2003, his play Katastrophe premired at Kyoto Art Center.

In 2005, he remodeled an old warehouse into a theatre, and directed Numb, his work without any words spoken on the stage.

From 2007 to 2010, he lived in Damascus, Syria. Since 2014, he has been living in Wuhan, China.

In 2017, he wrote a book Syria in Those Days.

1972年生于神户。1990年赴美。1996年毕业于纽约大学科学与艺术学院戏剧文学、戏剧史与电影专业。毕业后十年期间，以剧作家、戏剧导演的身份活跃于日本和美国。2007年到2010年期间，于叙利亚的大马士革大学从事日语教学工作。2011年于中国武汉从事一年的日语教学工作，2014年至今于武汉某大学担任日语系外教老师。
